A Guide to Electronic Health Records

Healthcare reform’s strong emphasis on electronic health records is driving increased need for high quality healthcare documentation in support of patient care, reimbursement/proof of service and meeting the goals of meaningful use.

This course is designed to introduce the allied health professional to electronic health records in both inpatient and outpatient settings. It integrates an overview of issues and concepts with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working in an EHR practice environment utilizing McKesson’s Practice Partner EHR, with a focus on the issues of privacy and security. This course is pre-approved by AHDI for 10 CM CEC’s.

Who should take this course?

This course is designed for allied health professionals who want to become more familiar with how Electronic Health Records are impacting their day-to-day activities. This EHR program is very comprehensive and quite relevant in today’s market, where allied health professionals are coming in contact more and more with Electronic Health Records.

What does the EHR Course cover?

This is an independent-study 8-week online course, which covers the factors that led to the emergence of electronic health records, the functions of an EHR in both the outpatient and inpatient settings, and the advantages the EHR offers over paper based records. Students will be introduced to the different types of electronic health records and explain how personal health records differ from electronic health records with a focus on the challenges electronic health information poses to the privacy and security of patient health information. The program includes hands-on experience utilizing McKesson’s Practice Partner EHR. The student will be given a maximum of 10 weeks of access to the online learning system from enrollment date to complete the curriculum in its entirety. During the entire course, the instructor will be available to answer questions by e-mail as well as in the course discussion forum.

Anatomy & Physiology for Allied Health Professionals

It covers all the major body systems (Skeletal, Integumentary, Muscular, Nervous, Sensory, Endocrine, Cardiovascular, Lymphatic, Respiratory, Digestive, Urinary, and Reproductive) and identifies the purpose and function of each, and how each interrelates with the others.  These easy to follow lessons are ideal for anyone requiring a solid understanding of how the human body works.

Speech Recognition Editing for Today’s MTs

Speech Recognition Editing (SRE)

In collaboration with the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) and 3M Corporation, AHDPG has developed the industry’s premier speech recognition editing course. This course is being offered exclusively through AHDPG and will:

  • Assist the practicing MT to confidently make the transition from standard transcription production worker to successful SRE knowledge-based worker.
  • Provide medical transcription schools and programs an option to broaden their curriculum.
  • Offer employers an excellent training opportunity for their workforce.

This course is a 100% online, self-study SRE course with open enrollment and is designed to be completed at the student’s individual pace within an approximate 8- to 12-week time frame.  It offers the student the opportunity for ample hands-on practice on 3M’s ChartScript.com platform using authentically speech-recognized drafts from genuine clinicians.

Diagnostic Imaging for Today’s MTs

Diagnostic Imaging

Diagnostic imaging tests are a part of nearly every report transcribed by a medical transcriptionist. This area of diagnostic testing plays a crucial role in medical decision making, and each test has a set of terminology, abbreviations, and descriptions all its own. To ensure that information pertaining to these tests is accurately transcribed into a patient’s medical record, a transcriptionist must have a thorough understanding of the purpose of each test, as well as the testing process and the terminology used to describe the results. This 4-week self-study course entails online learning via recorded webinars, weekly outlines, exercises, and transcription reports and a Final Exam. Educational topics include transmission and reflection imaging, emission imaging and nuclear medicine studies, and interventional radiology and radiation oncology. This course is pre-approved by AHDI for 10 CM CEC’s.
